Cachet Phakic Lens Implant

When most people consider the possibility of life without contact lenses or glasses, they’re usually thinking of LASIK or another type of laser eye surgery. Unfortunately, not everyone is a good candidate for LASIK. Some people’s corneas are too thin for LASIK, or their degree of myopia/shortsightedness is too high to correct with a laser procedure.

There’s good news, though – you can still enjoy improved distance vision without glasses or contact lenses, thanks to the AcrySof® CACHET™ Lens.

The AcrySof®CACHET™ phakic lens works with your natural lenses to help focus light for sharper distance vision. The AcrySof® CACHET™ phakic lens is implanted in the anterior chamber of your eye, in front of the iris. Once in place, phakic lenses add the focusing power you need to help correct high myopia. It’s like wearing your glasses or contacts all the time – but without all the hassle!

So if you want to experience a new view of life without glasses or contacts, and you’ve been told that LASIK isn’t right for you, the AcrySof®CACHET™ phakic lens may be what you’ve been waiting for.

Understanding cachet phakic lens implants

Imagine if you could have the improved vision that your glasses or contacts provide, without wearing them at all. That's where phakic implants come in.

There are a few different procedures out there that can correct vision problems, allowing people to live a life without their glasses or contact lenses. However, you have to be the right kind of candidate in order to undergo Lasik or other types of eye laser surgery. Some people are ineligible for two reasons: either their cornea is too thin to have Lasik surgery or their level of shortsightedness or myopia is too high to be corrected using a laser procedure. In these cases, phakic lenses are a great option to consider.

What is it?

A phakic lens is almost like an implantable contact lens which works in conjunction with your eye's natural lenses.

How does the procedure work?

When using the AcrySof®CACHET™ phakic lens, the lens is implanted in front of your iris, in the anterior chamber of the eye by means of a small incision.

What are the benefits?

Once the procedure is completed, it will seem as if you are wearing permanent contact lenses, as the lens implants will correct your degree of myopia (short-sightedness). The result is sharper and clearer distance vision, without any hassle or fuss. Another advantage to this procedure is that it is safe and reversible, as the anatomy of the eye is not changed in any way.

If you are unable to undergo laser treatment for your eyes but still want to enjoy the benefit of not having to wear your contacts or glasses, as well as improved vision, then phakic implants might be the ideal option for you. Contact us today for more information on this procedure.

In the early 1980's, they began looking at lasers to improve the precision and predictability of altering the shape of the cornea. Researchers found that the Excimer laser could remove tissue with up to 0.25 microns of accuracy. Now, in its second decade of use, the technologically advanced Excimer laser has added a tremendous amount of precision, control and safety to the surgical correction of vision errors. Using this remarkable technology, the cornea is reshaped to conform to your glasses or contact lenses.
